SiteCam is optimized for best performance for most digitizers. However, due many number of different types of digitizers, sometimes the performance of SiteCam can be improved.

The fastest methods of grabbing video do not always work with all types of digitizers. This could be due to out of date 'vdig' software or other reasons. If SiteCam successfully grabs video using the "Fastest" setting, you can skip this section.

Warning: Changing these settings can cause crashes with some digitizers that are not fully QuickTime compliant.

If you are experiencing video capture problems or crashes, changing these settings might help.

A typical fine tuning experiment goes as follows:

  1. Move the thumb to the far left side or leave it there.
  2. Click Test. Check for good quality video in the box to the left. Write down the fps (frames per second).
  3. Move the thumb over one tick to the right.
  4. Repeat set 2.
  5. If the video was good in either case, use the one with the higher fps and you're done.
  6. If the video quality was bad, move the thumb to the right another tick and try again.
  7. Repeat steps the above step until you have good video and as high a fps as possible.

If you get the message "Errors occurred using this method. Try a different setting." with the first step, just skip over the far left position and try a higher value until you get good video. This means that your digitizer does not support one of the QuickTime calls to "GrabOneFrame" of video. There may be an update available from the manufacturer, although the other modes may work just as well.

When you're done, just click on the Save button to save your changes in the "SiteCam prefs" file. If the settings were correct to begin with or you don't want to save your changes, just click the cancel button.
